Benedictine monks of Polokwane (South Africa) [May 2026]
Vocational Diploma in sewing
Project #26M004
St Benedict’s Abbey in Polokwane (South Africa) is a Benedictine monastery belonging to the Subiaco-Cassinese Congregation. The first monks arrived in the Northern Transvaal in 1906. The Apostolic Prefecture of Northern Transvaal was established in 1910. The outbreak of the First World War delayed the construction of the monastery, which was not completed until 1937. In 1939, the monastery became a territorial abbey. In 1989, the territory was attached to the abbey and established as a diocese. The community currently comprises 27 monks.
The monks are actively involved with the local community: the parish, a youth hostel for boys and girls aged 8 to 12, a school, a carpentry training workshop and a sewing school.

Project:
Brother Edward Kabi is in his second year of training in dressmaking with a view to obtaining a vocational qualification, so that he can work for the community and teach at the sewing school set up by the brothers.
Financial assistance: 2,000 euros
